ACT - Northeast Center

The Gulf of Maine Ocean Observing System (GoMOOS) hosts the Northeast Center and offers it operational ocean observing system as a test bed for environmental and ocean sensors.

GoMOOS operates, through our science partners at the University of Maine, Bigelow Laboratories for Ocean Sciences and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, a moored buoy array that provides real-time continuous data on the weather and oceanographic conditions on the Gulf of Maine. This array offers a unique platform for testing sensors in the cold waters of the North Atlantic. The GoMOOS science team includes the engineers, electricians and technicians required to ensure quality testing of sensors. In addition to the moored array, the University of Maine’s Darling Marine Center offers ready access to estuarine environments.

GoMOOS will participate in all activities of ACT as detailed in the ACT home page. In addition, it will establish and organize the Alliance membership for the Northeast, including Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York. GoMOOS will also organize and convene workshops on specific topics related to environmental sensors as a part of the overall ACT initiative. Click here for information on scheduled activities.
